The Springs Wiggler
This fly is one of the more popular flies in the great lakes area and is
often used to lure steelhead. This pattern was tied and submitted by OSD.
This fly can be tied in a variety of colors. Experiment to see what works best for you
in your area.
- Mustad 3399/3906/3906B size #4-#10
- Chenille
- Squirrel Tail hairs
- Saddle hackle
- 6/0 Uni-thread
Tie in your thread and take it back to the curve of the hook. Tie in a small amount of long squirrel hairs to create the tail.
Tie in your chenille and hackle just past the bed of the hook. Wrap the thread to the front of the hook, and add a half hitch.
Wrap the chenille to the eye of the hook, tie down, and trim the excess. Next wrap the hackle to the eye of the hook, tie it down, and trim the excess.
Bring the squirrel tail over thebody of the fly, and tie it in at the eye of the hook. Trim off the excess hair, and add a whip finish. Trim the thread, and cement.
